My name is Lindsey House and I am a dietitian, personal trainer and accountability coach. I feel like it’s important for you to understand my background because I have spent the last 13 years working in weight management, surgical weight loss and now plunging ahead, rewriting the rules to what success looks like in the health and fitness world. I go as far as publicly smashing scales because I believe so strongly in helping women redefine how to measure their success! I cannot continue to watch the disappointment, shame and hopeless looks in my clients, friends or families eyes while the scale tells them they failed or determines their self-worth. I have incredible passion in the world of helping people, but more defined… women. My niche and love is helping women find the power to feel good in our exact moment of life. Not feeling accomplished only when they lose those next 20 pounds or when they find the perfect career or become the perfect mom. Helping women love their actual life, even if it means radically accepting what their actual life looks like (pssst, quick secret, no one is ever perfect).
It’s amazing when a passion has been placed on your heart and you start charging forward with such clear focus, that people are placed in your life who share the same drive (just possibly on a different career path or holding a different talent). This is how I met Julie, she was photographing an event that consisted of women helping women. The event spanned from Miss Ohio speaking on media affecting body image, girls non-profits being served through jewelry sales, I was there to speak on progress over perfection and Julie was capturing this meaningful event with all of her talent.
It was in leaving this destined event, that I had scheduled a photo shoot. I knew I was excited, but I also wondered “do I really need to spend this time on myself”? It felt pampered to go spend 4 hours on a photo shoot! Living in the reality of my kiddos schedules and the logistics of clearing that time… there was a piece of me that always thinks, it’s easier to just stick to the normal routine and not worry about carving out time for me. Boy would I have missed out… I had the most pampered, feel good day that I’ve had since kids!
I showed up to Julie’s studio door with a handful of hangers and anticipation to what the morning might bring. From the second I set my stuff down, the pampering began. Julie’s daughter, Elly, is a make-up artist, so I was thrilled to hand over the reins and let her work her magic.
Then we started playing with outfit choices and poses! Do you know how comfortable it is to be in a photo session when the photographer walks you through poses? Being hand-held through the process of posing and positioning, not only eases any nerves, but brings out the best YOU! Being able to see a triangle in your elbow space and avoiding your shirt material coming together, gives shape and slenderizes (who knew?! Ha)…popping a hip, turning sideways, leaning forward, tilting the head were directions being given and I completely forgot to be nervous! Julie, Elly and I were laughing our way through the shoot and I remember thinking how lucky I was to be filling my morning with this experience!! I wanted to figure out how to gift this experience to other women because everyone deserves to feel this special (living one day in the life of a superstar… dressed up, makeup, photo shoot)!
Speaking of wanting women to feel amazing, I knew there was something about Julie that made me feel connected, and it wasn’t until she showed me her professional video that the whole picture came together for me. We were soul sisters on the same adventure of building women up and helping them feel beautiful in their actual life! The videos title was “To be comfortable in my own skin” and it was Julie’s daughter beautifully photographed as no one but herself, not as trying to conform to Hollywood expectations, but this beautiful 22 year old woman who is confident and loved.
EVERY WOMAN needs to have that picture of themselves, that picture that you actually feel good in, the picture that builds the image in your mind of how you should view yourself. Rip down the magazine pictures you have hung for motivation and push aside the pictures of 20 years ago that you are striving to re-attain. If we hung up beautiful portraits of our actual self (our 30, 40, 50, 60 year old self that is beautiful just as we are), now we have an appropriate image of the person that we can continue to work on and love.
Lastly, I cannot even tell you how fun it was to meet with Julie and review the pictures together! Because of her posing, talent and attention to detail, I truly loved all of her photographs. I had requested help with my book cover (released at the end of this year!), I had brought one of my husband’s work shirts thinking it would be fun to do some playful pictures, I brought dress-up clothes for professional pictures and I’m telling you she captured everything I was hoping for and more! Sometimes I think it’s scary to get pictures back because we have an idea in our head or a “hope” in our head that we will receive the perfect picture… I don’t believe in “perfect”, but I believe Julie actually has this talent and magic wand to make everyone feel uplifted and amazing in their own skin. I truly feel blessed for this experience! I can assure that anyone walking out of Julie’s studio door will feel instantly more confident. The photographs you will receive will help repaint the vision of yourself so that you have something realistic and beautiful to look upon and remember that we are blessed and beautiful every day we get to live in our actual life!!
Thank you Julie for this most amazing experience, Cheers to Health and Happiness,
